The son of an Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert Hugh Benson
was educated at Clevedon Preparatory School and Eton. In 1890, he entered Trinity College, Cambridge to study theology and was ordained a deacon in 1894. Rebellious by nature, in 1903, Benson embraced Roman Catholicism and began to write fiction.
His occult masterpiece, The Necromancers, is presented here in a new edition.
